A thank you to all of you who took the time to come by and say hello to Sam and Soitza who were aboard Tugzilla during the three days of the show.

Thank you also for checking out our two collaborations with the owners of the all electric Wayward Sun and all electric Electric Philosophy at the show. Watch a 15 minute video of our latest build here.

Wayward Sun traveled from Bellingham, Washington to Alaska in the summer of 2021 solely on electric power. It was a father son adventure – David and son Alex Borton – many years in the making. David had been working in solar energy for decades and decided to put his knowledge into creating a completely solar powered boat.

Electric philosophy was the dream of Ed and Eileen Pauley. They chose Sam as a boat designer to help them bring their dream to life. And the couple worked side by side with Sam and the crew from start to finish.

Another innovator and design customer of Sam is James Guzzwell. The Linach 15 is featured in WoodenBoat magazine’s May/June 2022 edition and was designed in collaboration with John, who wanted a large two piece “nesting” rowing, sailing, and fishing dinghy for Utah’s mountain lakes.  The design goal was to create the largest possible dinghy that could easily be transported inside any large SUV, minivan, or pickup truck capable of carrying a standard 4’ x 8’ sheet of plywood, with each hull section therefore being slightly less than 8’ long. We were happy to see it in person this year in Port Townsend.

Susan-Joanne and Dan Parnell were there with their beautiful 28 foot Onyx sailing sloop. This couple is meticulous in caring for their beloved sailing home.

Helen and John Carlson delighted us with their new canvass work for Scout that allowed seeing forward when standing in the cockpit because of the two large forward windows in the canvass.

Karen and Randy Cox went the extra mile on restoring and decorating their Surf Scoter 22 Whistler. They also added new cockpit canvass with a wonderful bronze and laminated hardwood support system.

Patty and Larry Cheek have all lines led aft on their Song Wren 21 sailboat for ease of handling. Patty B was built by Larry from Sam’s plans and he did a fantastic job!

Woody was the first Devlin boat you see coming down the dock ramp to the “Devlin Ghetto”. This Surf Scoter 23 was for sale and looking for a new owner as dedicated to her as her current owner has been.

And a thank you from us to all of the above who able to bring their boats to Port Townsend for us all to see in person. To see photos of all the above boats at the Port Townsend show check us out on Facebook.

By scrolling back on the Facebook site  and then watching day by day as we add new photos you’ll be able to see photos of all the nine boats listed above.
