“Tuffy” is a Black Crown 25 built in 1988 and an Alaska veteran a few times over.  Salty, trailerable, and comfortable –  she’s the perfect boat for the solo cruiser or a young couple. At 25 feet Tuffy offers a head forward between the very comfortable v-berths.  Forward also is a great pop-up table for two.  Moving into the lounge you’ll find comfortable leather seating for the Captain and the Navigator.  Behind the Captain’s seat is a compact galley and opposite is comfortable seating for the crew when you’re at anchor or sitting down with a guest or two.  The cockpit has a Yanmar 66HP diesel engine against the cabin bulkhead and enough room for fishing or just hanging out.

Prize was created by her owners and Sam Devlin prior to and as a precursor to the variety of “trailerable” trawlers that hit the market in 2005/6.  The owners liked the Surf Scoter 26 design and while Sam’s shop was fully engaged with a 45’ trawler build at the time, they went to Legendary Yachts  (www.legendaryyachts.com), a highly competent wooden boat builder in Washougal, WA. They got together to create Prize with Sam consulting on the project. And just last year (2023) she received a brand new 200 HP Yamaha outboard motor and a brand new 8HP Yamaha kicker outboard. All work was done here at Devlin Boat.

This is a boat that can take you out for offshore fishing or get you to Alaska and back at a pretty good clip if need be.

The design concept is for a vessel that can trail to inland waters, as well as allow one way touring on the water with the return via trailer. When on the trailer, as in the water, she is fully self-contained, so no need for a motel. You have your own Recreational Vehicle on and off the water.

When Sam designed and built this Black Crown 27 the purpose was to create a perfect small cruising boat for a couple. There are lots of sensible uses for every space on “Guillemont” and sensible equipment for the cruising couple (like all new Garmin electronics). Currently she is located on the Chesapeake. When conceived she needed to be perfect for cruising the Northwest. Her sturdy build works well on both the East and West coasts.
